Day 34: Just Stumbling Around the Internet

Do you stumble? How often? Were you sob… never mind, ignore that last, hee, hee.

In October 2005 a friend tipped me off to a cool web community that is also a unique directory to what’s online. It is known as StumbleUpon:

StumbleUpon is an intelligent browsing tool for sharing and discovering great websites. As you click STUMBLE!, you’ll get high-quality pages matched to your personal preferences. These pages have been explicitly recommended ( rated “I like it” ) by friends and other SU members with similar interests. Rating these sites shares them with your friends and peers – you will automatically ‘stumble upon’ each others favorites sites.

This social media site is a cool way to discover and share interesting places on the web that you and others may never learn about otherwise, or that are your favorite places online, as well as to meet other web surfers.

It is also a way for you to share the best of your own posts with the world.

Back in the day, during the few years I was a member, the look of the site, the look of your member page and all its tools, was vastly different from what it is today I have discovered.

While some of my interests are the same as back then, my purpose in using the site again has changed; As a writer and pet blogger I want to use the site to share interesting stories and websites as well as build my profile, attract an audience to my blogs and make new connections.

I also want to find resources and stories to write about and learn from.

SU’s official blog, Facebook and Twitter.

****UPDATE -4/25/13****

When looking into the SU page of the 1st commentor to this post and Day 35 I learned something I’d forgotten about SU since the first time I used it, years ago:

My “Interests” filter is currently set at “Appropriate for all ages”.

Users of SU need to be aware that choosing R means that only people who choose R or X in their interest settings will be able to see your content.

A change to x-rated would PERMANENTLY RESTRICT YOUR AUDIENCE.
